About Bathroom Accessories

Moving the outhouse into the inside of the house was a major milestone in the 19th century. However, other milestones have been made with this popular room in the house. Some of the improvements made are those that we most always take for granted: things such as the toilet roll dispenser, toothbrush holder and shower radio.

History

The battery-operated shower radio first patented by Andrew R. Mark in 1985 was an innovation for the bathroom. This invention marketed by Salton Inc. was sold by the name Wet Tunes. Teens loved it and parents also enjoyed listening to both music and news. Today, changes have been made. One example is the Every Audio Shower Mirror, which can play audio from media players within a 100-foot range. Its wireless transmitter can pick up the signal from your CD player, TV, MP3 player or stereo system. It also has a center mirror for shaving. We've come a long way since the '80s version of this gadget.

Types

You may not be able to buy any of the following odd bathroom accessories. However, you will get a kick out of the originality of things such as a computer case that spits out toilet paper instead of a disk.
There's also a toilet paper dispenser that prints out your favorite RSS feed on it. Pictures of these and other unusual toilet paper dispensers can be found at mentalfloss.com.
One that you can order through Amazon allows you to recharge your iPod while visiting your abode. It's called the iCarta iPod dock.

Potential

Looking for a shower curtain? How about something really different, such as the "Mad Mother Psychoshower Curtain" found at prankplace.com. It is a white curtain with a black silhouette of a motherly figure with raised arms and a knife in one hand. You may want to save that one for Halloween or for that unwanted son-in-law visit.

Expert Insight

If you're one of those people who can't stand it when a family member squeezes the toothpaste from the top; there's help for you. AlwaysBrilliant.com offers a toothpaste squeezer. For less then $8, you'll never complain again about this problem. With a turn of the key, the tube stays fat until it runs out.

Significance

With a rubber or vinyl bath mat, you minimize the chance of slipping and falling in the bathtub. There are many choices of mats. The most popular ones are cotton bath mats, which are flat, thin and durable; pebbles bathtub mats, which are thin, flat and made of solid plastic; and bubble bathroom shower mats, which are 100% vinyl and have a nonskid surface.
