How Often Should You Clean Your Jet Tub?

There is nothing like relaxing in your whirlpool tub after a long day and letting the jets of water massage your troubles away. What you may not know, however, is that the pipes of jet tubs can contain harmful bacteria and filth from previous uses. Fortunately, with regular cleaning, your tub will remain a relaxing and safe haven for you to enjoy.

Tub Surface

Use a mild, nonabrasive cleanser to clean your jet tub each week. Make sure you use a soft cloth so that you do not scratch the surface of the tub.

Tub fixtures

Clean the tub fixtures each week as well, using the same cleanser you used for the tub surface. Use a toothbrush or cotton swap to clean around the fixtures and inside the nozzles of the jets and faucet.

Prevent Buildup

You can prevent buildup on the surface of your whirlpool tub by wiping down the surface after every use and drying it with a towel.

The Pipes

The whirlpool plumbing system needs to be cleaned out once a month to remove any built-up filth and bacteria. If you use your tub frequently, you may need to clean it out more often.

The Process

Close the jets and fill the tub with hot water. Open the jets, add the cleaning solution and turn on the system for 10 to 15 minutes to clean out the plumbing. Repeat with fresh water to rinse the cleaner out.

The Cleaning Solution

You can buy a commercial whirlpool tub cleaning solution, or make your own by adding two tablespoons of non-foaming dishwasher detergent and one half cup of bleach to the hot water.
