How to Make Country Kitchen Cabinets

How to Make Country Kitchen Cabinets

Country kitchen cabinets can make a bold statement in your country-style kitchen. No need to spend thousands on new cabinets -- use the cabinets you already have in your kitchen. By doing the project yourself, you'll be able to add a personal touch to your home decorating and get the exact look you want.

Instructions

    1

Cut out the center of the cabinet doors and replace it with a beadboard or tin panel.

    2

Distress your cabinets with sand paper, an awl, a wood file or any other means of creating a weathered, worn look. This doesn't mean you should take a belt sander to your cabinet doors. You want your country kitchen cabinets to look aged and to have character, not like they are about to fall off the hinges. Use a glaze just around the molding on the door, or use a color that is close to your paint color. Make sure that all the brushstrokes go in the direction of the natural wood. Use a light hand so the aging doesn't look forced.

    3

Accept what you have and work with it. If you don't have wood cabinets, that's okay. Embrace painted cabinets. Use a faux finish to resemble the aging process, or paint country-style stencils on cabinet doors.

    4

Don't be disappointed if you have ordinary oak cabinets. Stain oak cabinets a modern country color like sage green to coordinate with other decorations, or go with an interesting mahogany finish that will make the wood look more expensive
