How to Attach Cabinet Handles

How to Attach Cabinet Handles

One of the most noticeable accents to cabinetry are the handles. Learning a few basic concepts about cabinet handles will help you decide on the style. For example, some cabinet handles require two screws while others only require one. The determining factor between the two should be the make and style of the cabinetry they will be installed on. If you are replacing cabinet handles, consider the the dimensions of the holes already drilled.

Instructions

Replacing

    1

Insert a screw into one of the holes that is in the cabinet where the handle will go. Align the screw with the screw hole of the cabinet handle.

    2

Turn the screw until it is slightly inserted into the screw holes in the cabinet handle. Next, insert the second, screw if this is this two screw handle, and align it with the remaining screw hole in the cabinet handle.

    3

Tighten both screws until the cabinet handle is tightly against the door or drawer. Repeat this for the remaining cabinet handles.

Installing Cabinet Handles on New Cabinets

    4

Measure the distance between the two screw holes of your handle when deciding where the handle will go on your cabinet. Be precise in your measurement or you'll have difficulty installing the handle.

    5

Measure the diameter of the screw that came with your handles to be certain your drill bit is the right size. Practice on a scrap piece of lumber if you are unsure.

    6

Mark the cabinet in the place where the cabinet handle will be installed. Be certain that the distance between the marks is exactly the same as the handle. If this is a handle that is requires one screw, be certain the size of the drill bit is correct.

    7

Drill the holes from the front side of the cabinet and not the back as some splintering may occur. Install the first handle before drilling all the holes to be certain that your measurements are correct.
