How to Unclog a Drain With Lemon Juice Naturally

How to Unclog a Drain With Lemon Juice Naturally

Clogged drains are a part of life. Whether it is a sink or a shower drain, the process of dealing with a clog is never an experience to look forward to. Sure, they can be treated easy enough with commercial plumbing solutions, but that will add chemicals to the water table. What if there was an all-natural way to remove the clog? There is, and you probably already have the ingredients at home.

    1

Fill a large saucepan with water. Bring the water to a rolling boil. Pour the water down the clogged drain to cut through any grease or soap buildup. This should loosen the clog and provide a small improvement in water flow.

    2

Use a sink plunger to clear a path for any remaining water to drain away. The sink plunger looks like a toilet plunger, only smaller. A standard toilet plunger can also be used, as long as it is new and has never been in the toilet.

    3

Pour half a box of baking soda into the clogged drain. It may be helpful to use a spoon to get the baking soda down the drain. Some of it may fall through the clog, while most will come to rest inside the clog or on top of it.

    4

Pour 8 to 12 ounces of lemon juice down the drain. The lemon juice will react with the baking soda and transform it into a foam that expands through the pipe. This will break free large sections of the clog and may even sweep part of it away.

    5

Bring another panful of water to a boil, and pour the water down the drain. This will help wash away any portions of the clog that are free, while also rinsing away the foam.
