How to Hide Seams on a Glass Tile Backsplash

How to Hide Seams on a Glass Tile Backsplash

Installing a glass tile backsplash protects your walls from spills and splashes and makes clean up time a breeze, since you can wipe it down as you would your counter top. Glass tiles are also beautiful and add a touch of elegance to your kitchen with its luminescent quality. Glass tile backsplashes usually come in mosaic patterns and are bought in 1-foot-square pieces. They are made up of small glass tiles in a specific pattern that are adhered to a net-like backing for easy installation. Many homeowners take great care when installing the backsplash and should do the same when applying grout and hiding any seams.

Instructions

    1

Line up your square tile pieces carefully. Take your time and apply only enough thinset tile mortar so you can comfortably tile on top within five minutes. If you are rushed to set your tile before the mortar dries, you may not line it up correctly. Be sure your sqare tile pieces are evenly spaced by taking a step back and looking at it directly. If you are using individual tile pieces, use spacers to have even grout lines.

    2

Apply your grout at least 24 hours after laying the tile. Keep in mind that your grout should go on like frosting on a cake. If it is not that consistency, you need to either add more water or more grout powder. Use the edge your rubber float to wipe off extra grout as you go along.

    3

Clean off your grout completely when done. Use a damp grout sponge and wipe the grout off all your tiles. When done, it will look hazy. After that dries, use dry cheesecloth and wipe the haze off.
